Learn how to take care of your fence properly so it lasts forever.

A fencing material that used to be only installed around commercial facilities, chain link fences are now gaining popularity amongst homeowners.  Chain link fencing is one of the strongest and most durable options you can install around your home, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care for it.  You want your fence to last for as long as you are going to be living in your home right?  There are a few simple ways to care for your chain link fence properly so your whole family can reap its benefits for years to come.

Avoid Rusting With Coating

One of the most attractive qualities of chain link fencing is that it a highly durable option to install around any home.  Although, your fencing needs to be coated properly with either PVC or vinyl to avoid rust and protect it from all of the elements.  Rain, sleet, and moisture will cause your chain link fencing to rust.  So it is vital that you have your fencing coated with the proper finish immediately after installation.

Wash and Wax

As with any other fencing material, it is important to wash your chain link fence occasionally to get rid of any dirt or debris that has accumulated.  You should wash your fencing with warm soapy water in between seasons so it can look good as new.  Once your fence is thoroughly washed and dried, coat it with a wax that you can purchase from any home improvement store.  The wax will help your fence obtain a nice, shiny look all year long.

Check and Oil

It is wise to inspect your chain link fencing occasionally for any wear and tear or even a loose nail.  If there is a loose nail, make sure to tighten it and any other loose bolts that hold your fence together.  If your chain link fence has a gate, then it is essential to oil the hinges to avoid any rust or external damage.
