Wood fences, believe it or not, can stay clean and pristine with a little bit of TLC. Today we’re going to go over four ways that you can (and should) maintain wood fencing. This option is a homeowner’s favorite because of the affordability and classic charm. If you want your wood fence to stay wonderful-looking, we know that you’ll enjoy this content.
Apply a Wood Cleaner to Your Fence
Make sure to read the instructions before applying the wood fence cleaner. Each cleaner has different guidelines. We suggest that you work from the bottom of the fence to the top of it. Coat the entire fence with the solution. If your wood fence has any tight areas, we recommend that you dip a brush into the solution and apply it between tight corners and boards.
Let the Cleaning Solution Sit for About 20 Minutes
What this does is allow the cleaner to soak into the wood before you rinse it away. If the guidelines tell you to keep the solution on for longer, then follow those directions.
Rinse the Solution Off With a Pressure Washer
Read any safety instructions or warnings about your pressure washer if you’re using it for the first time. Pressure washers rated at 2700 PSI or less or less are less likely to damage wood fences. We recommend that you move the spray tip back and forth over the fence. But make sure that you keep the pressure washer at least two feet away from your wood fence. You don’t want the pressure washer to sit in one place. Too much forced and focused pressure can damage the wood. Move the tip back and forth over the wood until the cleaner is gone.
Allow Your Fence to Dry for A Day
Allow your fence to dry for a full 24 hours. Make sure that the fence is thoroughly dry before you apply any sealants or paint. Is it very humid outside, or has it been raining for a few days? Then, give your wood fence a few more days to dry before you apply anything to it.
Wood Fences in a Nutshell
Wood fencing comes in various colors, heights, and textures. Long gone are the days where wood fences don’t make it past a year or two. When a fence is properly treated and maintained, you can look forward to its beauty and durability for decades to come!
